ROPEHOLDER SPOTLIGHT
“He has created us all to make Him known and we get to respond through different roles that are all equally important. So I take joy in holding the rope for those who are able to go and spread the hope of the gospel across the world!”

A story from the field
Muhammed: The Thinker
Muhammed lives in downtown Cairo. The fourth of seven children in his family, he shares a three bedroom apartment with parents, brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. He grew up feeling like he had no voice; that his questions and comments were pushed aside for more pressing matters. Muhammed is more of a listener and observer than a talker. He is always watching and thinking, about why people do this or that, why cultures develop, even why people believe in the practices and traditions of their religion. This is an extremely dangerous thought life for someone from an Islamic society. One cannot simply discuss these thoughts and ideas with their friends and family without serious consequences… even at a legal level.
Because of his circumstance, Muhammed began searching for answers online. Much of what he found was informational websites, but the information never fully satisfied his curiosity. One day while scrolling through his FaceBook news feed, he saw a sponsored ad with a graphic that was asking if he had assurance of salvation. He thought for a moment about who was around him, and checked to see if anyone else could see what was on his phone screen. He shifted his weight in his chair. Certain that no one else could see his screen, he clicked on the ad. The ad brought him to our outreach page. For the month of June, the topic of focus for our page was “Assurance of Salvation."
Muhammed quietly observed our page for several months, reading the conversations happening about sacrifice, God’s character, calling, and thankfulness, only commenting a few times. It wasn't until earlier this month that he was reading some comments on our page, in which a Muslim man was discussing various tenets of Islam vs. Christianity with one of us. Muhammed, intrigued by the conversation, noticed the man made two very common but opposing/contradictory statements about Islam, and continued commenting with haste. Muhammed waited for the rebuttal from us on our page, expecting us to point out the contradictions the man had made, but Muhammed was surprised by the response he saw. Our team didn't engage in arguments, but instead continued pointing to Jesus, His life, teaching, and miracles.
It is our belief that if we can encourage our page visitors to truly examine the person of Jesus Christ through the scriptures, that the Holy Spirit will meet with them, and God will reveal Himself to them.
This response encouraged Muhammed to private message us. He told us a bit of his story and thanked us for not just debating and arguing, but for being willing to dialogue with people. He also told us that He could tell the page was really based on a passion for Jesus, and that drew him to look at the page often.
Muhammed is currently still dialoguing with us often, and we are praying that through our online communication with him, that we will be able to meet face-to-face with him soon to open the word with him and begin discipling him in person. Would you pray with us for Muhammed? - Sam & Emma Scott in Egypt
